When his brother Jason gave his retirement statement in Philadelphia on Monday, Travis Kelce started crying.
As Jason delivered his final press conference following 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Kansas City Chiefs star was seen sobbing while seated in the front row with their parents, Ed and Donna.Jason talked about his childhood backyard football games with Travis during his speech. He also remembered the feelings he had both the year he was drafted into the NFL and the year Travis was drafted.
‘I won’t forget two years later, that same man [Ed] and my brother receiving a call when he got drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. This time we were both in tears.’
Jason continued to praise Travis and relished their relationship, even when they competed against each other. Jason pointed out how his career brought him to the City of Brotherly Love but – but he ‘always knew what it felt like.’
Travis Kelce was in tears as his brother Jason delivered his retirement speech in Philadelphia
Jason Kelce made his retirement from the Philadelphia Eagles official after 13 seasons.
“Without the bond Travis and I shared, there is no way I would be here,” said Jason.
We are a modest family. It really was my brother and me—the entirety of our life. We competed, fought, grieved, and accomplished practically everything together. Before we left the house, we created games and imagined ourselves to be Super Bowl champions.
Jason also talked about his emotions after the Eagles’ Super Bowl loss to Travis and the Chiefs the previous season.
“I will never forget the tremendous heartbreak I felt for myself and my teammates after losing to the Chiefs, as well as the immense pride I felt for my brother.”
The Eagles won 10 of their first 11 games in the previous season. They did, however, go through a late-season slump and drop their last six games.
The Kelce brothers both found success in the NFL and squared off in the Super Bowl in 2023
Following Jason’s retirement speech, he and Travis had a brief moment off stage.
When the Philadelphia Eagles lost their season finale to the struggling New York Giants, 27-10, the fan base’s outrage reached a pinnacle. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers humiliated the team once more in the wild-card round after the first setback.
It was said that Kelce announced his retirement to his teammates in the locker room following the 32–9 defeat. The centre refuted the rumours, saying he was still “figuring out” the circumstances.
Kelce hung up his cleats officially on Monday in a tearful press appearance. Jason came out to hug Travis in front of his wife Kylie and their parents after leaving the stage.
Seven Pro Bowls, six first-team All-Pro choices, and a 2017 Super Bowl championship were among the highlights of Kelce’s career.
