Mbappe has informed PSG that he will not renew his contract.
According to L’Equipe, Kylian Mbappe decided not to activate the option to extend his contract until the summer of 2025. This means that the French striker will become a free agent in June 2024.
At this point, PSG is in a dilemma. The Ligue 1 champions will have to sell Mbappe right this summer, or continue to keep Mbappe for another season, then accept the loss of the player they spent 180 million euros to recruit from AS Monaco a few years ago.
“PSG does not want to let Mbappe leave on a free basis. He must sign a new contract this summer, or be sold,” journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed.
This is said to be Mbappe’s move to put pressure on the PSG board, thereby realizing his dream of joining Real Madrid.
In the summer of 2021, Real worked hard to negotiate to recruit Mbappe. The Bernabeu team spent up to 200 million euros just in exchange for a year’s contract of the 2018 World Cup champion, but was still refused.
By increasing wages and adding a series of perks, PSG also called for the intervention of the French President to convince Mbappe to stay at Parc des Princes. The effort of the capital team was successful when in May 2022, this player agreed to extend for 2 more seasons.
The original plan of “Los Blancos” was to wait for Mbappe until the summer of 2024. Now, the Bernabeu team will resume contact with PSG in the hope of soon someone worthy to inherit the vacant No. 9 shirt, after Karim Benzema left.
In the last season, Mbappe is the number one star of PSG with 28 goals, 5 assists. He helped “Le Parisien” successfully defend the Ligue 1 title.
