PSG have issued an ultimatum to Kylian Mbappe in the context of the French striker’s contract expiring in the summer of 2024.
According to French newspaper L’Équipe, PSG has now set a deadline of July 31 for Mbappe to activate the option of a one-year extension in his current contract. If Mbappe does not agree, the Ligue 1 champion will put the French striker’s name on the list for sale in this summer’s transfer window.
Mbappe will be sold by PSG this summer?
Informal discussions between Mbappe’s agent and PSG have resumed, even as significant disagreements remain. PSG think Mbappe wants to leave for free in order to demand a higher signing fee at his new club, but that would cost the Ligue 1 champions a huge chunk of cash. Remember, PSG spent up to 180 million euros to recruit Mbappe from Monaco in 2018.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Mbappe wants to receive 240 million euros at the new club, including tips, loyalty fees and accompanying bonuses. Real Madrid is rumored to be Mbappe’s next stop. However, “White Vultures” of course do not want to meet this amount, especially when they still have to pay a transfer fee of 200 million euros for PSG.
Mbappe once had a spectacular “turn of the car” in the summer of 2021 after being approached by Real Madrid. The French striker thought he had joined the Spanish Royal team but at the last minute, he chose to stay at PSG and agreed to extend his contract until 2024.
In early June, Mbappe submitted an application to the PSG board to announce that he would not activate the option to extend for another year in his current contract. That means the French striker is ready to enter his final season in the Ligue 1 champion shirt and then leave for free.
According to the French press, Mbappe is in no hurry to leave PSG because he wants to receive a loyalty fee of 150 million euros in the summer of 2024 in the terms signed with the Paris team. If you want Mbappe to leave this summer, PSG or a new club will have to make up for it.
