On the Curious Mike podcast with Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr. recently offered intriguing insights about his superstar teammate Nikola Jokic, shedding light on the Serbian player’s growth as a basketball player.
Porter Jr. shared insights into Jokic’s approach to the game, disclosing that the two-time MVP initially approached basketball with a more relaxed attitude. However, there was a notable shift once Jokic secured the prestigious MVP award.
While acknowledging Jokic’s marked improvement on the court, Porter Jr. also shed light on the Serbian star’s laid-back demeanor, even in the face of consecutive MVP wins and a recent championship.
“Jokic wins MVP back-to-back. How has he improved this year, considering that we recently won a championship? You return to Serbia. I told him as we were speaking, ‘Brother, I was drinking six beers a day,’” Porter Jr. revealed on the Curious Mike podcast. He added, “he probably didn’t touch a basketball.”
Porter Jr. went on to unveil Jokic’s unconventional lifestyle and fitness regimen, deviating from the typical routines of professional basketball players. The current Finals MVP not only focuses on winning on the court but also enjoys traveling back to Serbia to spend time with friends and horses. Interestingly, he seems indifferent to the traditional celebration of a title parade in Denver.
How does Denver feel about Victor Wembanyama?
The conversation shifted from Jokic’s experiences off the court to the up-and-coming players in the NBA. After Denver defeated the San Antonio Spurs 131-120, Jokic gave rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama a lot of credit, thanking him for his contribution to the game.
Jokic called the 19-year-old Wembanyama “era-defining” and predicted a revolutionary impact, praising his unwavering work ethic and dedication to advancement.
“For all the guys, just enjoy and watch the show and let the guy change the game; he’s already on the right path,” he said, adding, “He will completely alter the course of the game.”
He’s not getting scared or tired. He wants to be good, so he’s playing hard and doesn’t take anything for granted.
Wembanyama, who is frequently considered the best draft prospect since LeBron James in 2003, is making a strong effort to win Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in his first NBA season. Jokic demonstrates in his comments that he is an experienced player who is aware of the promising future that awaits a young player who is anticipated to contribute significantly to the league.
