Neymar Jr.’s name was in the rumor mill again this summer transfer window. Clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United were linked to the 31-year-old; however, no transfer has occurred.
L’Equipe reported on Thursday the reasons why the Brazilian has a desire to remain at Paris Saint-Germain.
One of the reasons why Neymar wants to continue in the French capital is that he’s comfortable. The veteran forward has been in the city and club since 2017, so there’s likely no wish to leave.
Neymar also became a father for the second time. As a result, the PSG star doesn’t want to uproot his life while having a newborn baby now. The finances also play a role as he earns €25 million net annually, and there are likely not many clubs in Europe that can pay those figures.
While family and finances play a role in Neymar’s desire to stay, there’s also the sporting aspect. The Brazilian wants to full the goal that led to his arrival at PSG, winning the UEFA Champions League.
Furthermore, the forward wants to have an entire season that’s injury free. History has shown that a healthy Neymar can take PSG deep into the Champions League, even reaching a final in 2020.
With Lionel Messi gone and Kylian Mbappé having an uncertain future, PSG might have to lean on Neymar a lot this 2023-24 season.
